a day of baking.

"Food is not about impressing people. It's about making them feel comfortable."

Today was a very therapeutic day full of baking yummy little treats. I absolutely love to bake.......well, let me correct that... I love anything to do with food.  It has always been an important part of my life and it always reminds me of family.  Everyone in my family loves to cook and when I was growing up, we really bonded while preparing and enjoying dinner together.  I really hope that I will be able to pass that passion and that experience on to my children.
Anyways! Lets get back to the day:

It started off this morning helping Kateena with some cupcakes that she was making for work.  We got this idea from my brother, Jason, who made these for my niece's birthday.  They are the CUTEST ever!  Using yellow cake and brownie cookies, we built little mini cheeseburger cupcakes! The "cheese" was made from yellow and orange starburst.  Aren't they adorable?!  The first time we made these for her work, her co-workers actually thought they were cheeseburgers.

Then after making a couple pairs of earrings and taking pictures of them, I decided to try an experiment.  I LOVE butternut squash......seriously..LOVE. So I wanted to see if I could make a butternut squash pie by using my pumpkin pie recipe.
Here are some pictures of my journey:

And now...... the finished product!!

Sooooooooo yummy!  I still have to get started making dinner.  Its kind of a catch 22 with Jose working so much.  I hate that he's gone all day (8:30 am to 10pm), but it makes it a little bit easier trying to have dinner made for him when he gets home so late. =]

Wednesday will be a BIG day of baking (and traveling) for me too. We are going to Polson for Thanksgiving and I always bring the pies.  So I have to make a pumpkin and a cherry pie.... from scratch.  You will never catch me using cherry pie filling!
( And honestly, I have the most amazing recipes from my Grandma.  So even though she is no longer with us, she is through her recipes!)
I also have to pack all of our stuff and load up the car so when Jose gets home at 10 we can hit the road!

Well I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
